Examples of infrastructural weaknesses, teacher shortages, and corruption in primary schools have appeared regularly in various national and international reports and media outlets. Many government primary schools in Bangladesh suffer from a lack of adequate classrooms, hygienic sanitation, and safe water facilities, which directly impacts the quality of education and student attendance. Additionally, irregularities such as nepotism in school management committees, corruption in budget management, and the collection of unauthorized fees for admissions or stipends reflect a lack of transparency and accountability within the education system. It is also concerning that despite official approval and budget allocations, many schools face delays in basic infrastructure construction, substandard workmanship, and project failures due to a lack of supervision.
To make primary education more quality-driven, inclusive, and effective, TIB is implementing monitoring activities in government primary schools under the Participatory Action Against Corruption Toward Transparency and Accountability (PACTA) project. This initiative aims to ensure the active participation of local citizens and foster an environment of transparency and accountability.
