Bangladesh became a State Party to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in 2007. This report, prepared by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), reviews Bangladesh’s implementation of the commitments under Chapter II (Preventive Measures) and Chapter V (Asset Recovery), which are among the chapters designated for the second cycle of the UNCAC review process. The report has been prepared to contribute to monitoring the ongoing international process of UNCAC implementation.
Objectives of the Study
The main objective of this report is to review Bangladesh’s initiatives, achievements, challenges and overall progress in implementing the United Nations Convention against Corruption in light of the aforementioned chapters. More specifically, the report aims to review the initiatives undertaken by the Government of Bangladesh, achievements, limitations and overall progress in implementing selected provisions of the two chapters that are particularly significant and relevant to the current context, and to put forward actionable policy and guidance-oriented recommendations to ensure more effective implementation and enforcement of the Convention.
