In Transparency International Bangladesh’s previous research regarding fossil fuel power projects, donor-dependent policies, planning, local and foreign investor and vested interest group influence, and exploiting legal weaknesses, the successful implementation of these unnecessary import-based projects was thoroughly revealed. Despite Bangladesh’s massive potential for renewable energy, lack of realistic and mature initiatives or visible steps by the government is seen; meanwhile, allegations have surfaced that fossil fuel-based power projects are approved despite high corruption and irregularity risks. This research was conducted from the necessity to review existing policies and stakeholder roles from governance perspectives, including identifying institutional and financial challenges for just transition towards renewable energy targets by 2050.
