Dhaka, 16 March 2026: Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has expressed deep concern and demands a fair, neutral, and swift investigation to uncover the truth behind the murder of Sharmin Jahan Khadija. She was a student of Public Administration department at Jahangirnagar University (JU) and the deputy leader of the JU Youth Engagement and Support (YES) Group.
On 15 March 2026, she was murdered in the Islamnagar area near the university. This tragic incident has caused profound concern within the JU YES Group.
TIB believes it is crucial to investigate the murder with utmost seriousness. The university administration and relevant law enforcement agencies are urged to conduct a fair, neutral, and transparent investigation quickly to uncover the facts and bring those responsible to justice to ensure exemplary punishment.
Sharmin Jahan Khadija had been an active member of the JU YES Group since 8 December 2025, playing a significant role in the social movement against corruption. She was elected as the deputy leader of the group on 27 January 2026. She was a student of the 2021-2022 academic session and was involved in various social and voluntary organisations. The TIB family is deeply saddened by her untimely and tragic death.
TIB strongly demands that the investigation into the murder of Sharmin Jahan Khadija be given the highest priority to ensure justice through a transparent process.
