TIB Calls for Caution Against Misinterpretation of Its Findings on Fraudulent Vote Casting

Press Release

Dhaka, 16 February 2026: Misinformation and disinformation are being spread quoting Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) regarding fraudulent vote casting in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Confusion has been created in the public mind by wrongly publicizing and publishing the information presented at a press conference organized on the occasion of the publication of the report titled “13th National Election Process Tracking and Affidavits: TIB's Observations”. The organization has called upon the media to correct this mistake immediately and urged everyone to be cautious in preventing confusion.

In a statement issued to the media, TIB clarified that confusion has arisen due to incorrect interpretation and reporting of information. According to the press release, TIB’s conducted research through a random sampling method covering 70 selected constituencies which found information indicating that one or more fraudulent votes were cast in 21.4 percent of those sampled constituencies. However, portraying this finding as meaning that 21.4 percent of the total votes cast nationwide were fraudulent - is entirely incorrect, baseless, and misleading.

TIB firmly stated that such misinterpretation distorts the actual findings of the report and creates unnecessary confusion among the public and has urged media to disseminate correct information. If no correction is made, it will be regarded as a deliberate attempt to mislead.
