Dhaka, 28 September 2024: Human rights and social activist Banasree Paul and the former Executive Director of BRAC International Faruque Ahmed have joined the Board of Trustees of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) as new members. They participated in the 121st meeting of the Board of Trustees of TIB held on 26 September 2024. They will serve as members of the board for the next three years.
Banasree Paul is a life member of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Lakshmipur District Unit and an executive member of the National Women Organisation, District Office, Lakshmipur. Additionally, she has played a significant role in social service through her involvement as a private jail inspector of Lakshmipur, an executive member of Shilpakala Academy, and a member of the district sports association and various charitable institutions.
Faruque Ahmed is a member of the Board of Directors of Social Marketing Company (SMC) Enterprise and serves as the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the non-governmental development organisations RDRS Bangladesh and Phulki. He was a board member of the Geneva based Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Furthermore, alongside serving in various positions at the World Bank office in Dhaka, he has played important roles in different committees of the World Health Organisation and the World Bank.
The Board of Trustees is the highest policy making forum of TIB. Other members of the board are: eminent human rights activist Advocate Sultana Kamal, Chairperson; Professor Dr Tasneem Arefa Siddiqui, Secretary; and the Publisher and Editor of The Daily Star Mahfuz Anam, Treasurer. Members are: writer and academic Abul Momen, Professor Dr Fakrul Alam, Advocate Sushmita Chakma, the founder of the floating hospital Jibon Tari Mansur Ahmed Choudhury and the founding director of the Society for Environment and Human Development (SEHD) Philip Gain.
