3rd TIB-DUMCS Anti-Corruption Moot Court Competition 2023

Dhaka, 09 March 2024: The University of Dhaka has been crowned the champion of the 3rd TIB-DUMCS Anti-Corruption Moot Court Competition 2023, jointly organized by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) and the Dhaka University Moot Court Society (DUMCS) under the Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka. The State University of Bangladesh became the runner-up. The competition aimed to enhance the knowledge and awareness of law students on anti-corruption laws and related issues in Bangladesh. A total of 20 universities from across the country participated in the competition, which concluded with engaging presentations and arguments by the students.

The three-day competition was inaugurated on 6 March at the Faculty of Law auditorium, University of Dhaka. The final round, award ceremony, and closing session took place on 8 and 9 March at MIDAS Center, Dhanmondi. The third edition of this national-level moot court competition saw the participation of around 80 law students and faculty members.

In the individual category, Rafid Azad Saumik from the University of Dhaka won the Best Oralist Award, while Oishe Rahman from the same university won the 2nd Best Oralist Award, and Anika Tabassum Haque from the State University of Bangladesh secured the 3rd Best Oralist Award. Additionally, the Spirit of TIB Award was awarded to the University of Dhaka, and the Best New Team Award went to East West University. In the Best Memorial category, Uttara University secured the 1st position, the University of Dhaka came 2nd, and Jagannath University came 3rd.

The final round of the competition was judged by three Honorable Justices of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh: Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, Justice Md. Akram Hossain Chowdhury, and Justice Md. Rezaul Haque.

The award ceremony and closing session were graced by Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of TIB; Professor Dr. Sumaiya Khair, Executive Management Advisor; Dr. Seema Zaman, Dean of the Faculty of Law and President of DUMCS; and Professor Dr. Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuiyan, Chief Moderator of DUMCS.

At the closing session, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of TIB, called upon the youth to continue building a strong social movement against corruption and formally declared the event closed.

The first TIB-DUMCS Anti-Corruption Moot Court Competition was held on 7–9 December 2017. The second edition took place on 28–30 November 2019.
