Climate Vulnerability

Citizen’s Review of SDG Progress in Bangladesh: Contribution to VNR Process

Published: 25 December 2024

This report examines five SDG areas (health, gender equality, economic growth, marine ecosystems, and partnerships) and finds that climate change is severely affecting vulnerable groups, including women, youth, elderly people, and persons with disabilities. Key challenges include rising pollution-related deaths, increased climate-induced diseases like dengue, surging gender-based violence during disasters (71% of women experienced abuse during floods), child marriage rates of 60% in coastal areas, and inadequate climate finance. This report also identified critical policy gaps and recommends urgent reforms, including inclusive climate financing, gender mainstreaming in climate action, sustainable livelihood programs, enhanced health services, and strengthened early warning systems to protect Bangladesh's most vulnerable communities.
